The Nkisi Schools

The Nkisi Comprehensive Schools are made up of the kindergarten/nursery or pre-school (between one and a half years and 5 years), the primary school (between 5 years and 11 years) and secondary school (between 11 years and 17 years). This means that children, who are admitted into Creative Minds Foundation from the tender age of about one and half, are programmed to pass through the three stages until they are seventeen years of age or thereabout after successful completion of their senior secondary education. The classes in nursery, primary and secondary schools are arranged according to individual performance and I.Q.

Nursery

In Nkisi Nursery School, life skills are developed and a foundation laid for the future years of study. Much pre-reading work is done, and majority of the children are reading with confidence by the time they leave the nursery level. Children are assessed at the beginning to determine their levels of development and co-ordination by means of games, stories and eye-to-hand control exercises. By the end of nursery two, children are able to name and distinguish all the colours; use prepositions, express their feelings and follow instructions.  They are able to dress themselves, distinguish between left and right and recall stories and songs. They are familiar with numbers up to 10 and are able to play simple number games, the words “take away” and “add” having been introduced. They begin to learn French by means of simple games and songs. At this stage the children can be given certain responsibilities. Nursery 3A can read short stories by sound reading. They can spell, subtract and add with carrying. They know times tables one to five and can do mental mathematics.

Primary

From the age of five, children who pass the primary school admission tests and the interview from the nursery section are received into the Nkisi Primary School. They are groomed for five or six years for the Anambra State, Federal and Nkisi Comprehensive Secondary Schools Common Entrance Examinations.

The classes are grouped and graded in years and according to the intellectual and moral performances of the children under the direct care and guidance of class teachers, form teachers, supervisors and the headmistress. Class sizes are deliberately kept small to ensure a great deal of individual attention so that every pupil has the opportunity to reach his or her potentials through the caring and structured program. Learning support is available to any pupils requiring special help. Special programs may be developed in certain cases. Thus our children benefit from the individual attention provided by the highly trained and qualified staff. The Language of instruction is English. Igbo and French are taught like all the Sciences and the Arts. This section is specially and completely under the direction and guidance of the Creative Minds Foundation Principal.

Secondary

From the ages of twelve and thirteen children that successfully finished their primary school are admitted into the secondary section of the Creative Minds Foundation, after they have passed the entrance and interview examinations. The secondary school is a six years program – the first three years of junior secondary is a general education that ends with an external examination for the Anambra State Junior Secondary School Certificate as recognized by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  Students that achieved distinguishable success in their junior secondary education are reassessed before admission for their last three years of senior secondary education into the Nkisi Comprehensive Senior Secondary School. At the end of senior secondary one and in consultation with their parents, teachers, and the school management; students make their choices of subjects for the externally approved examinations of the West African Examination Council (Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations) for Government approved schools and/or the University of Cambridge (G.C.E.) England, through the British Council in Nigeria.

Continuous Assessment

A unique and special diary and file systems are operated in both the primary and secondary schools for individual communication and continuous assessment of our pupils. This means that that every pupil from the primary level must have his/her personal diary, specially designed by the school. The diary must be signed on daily basis by the parent or guardian. The diary is a medium of direct communication and serves as control for all – the child, school authorities and parents/guardian. The graphed individual continuous assessment file – fortnightly basis, and diary – daily basis, show at a glance the status of any Creative Minds Foundation child for the duration of a given period including examinations.

Discipline

The school rules and regulations cover expectations for good behaviour. All pupils are required to abide by a code of conduct similar to those normally expected in various communities. After school care is available until 6.00p.m. for parents whose work arrangements make it difficult for them to collect their children earlier. Creative Minds Foundation Schools act as good parents to the children.

Admission Interviews

Every parent and/or guardian desirous to get his/her ward admitted into Creative Minds Foundation Schools is invited to a face to face interview with the school management, led by the foundation principal or her accredited representative.
